Ringgold, Pa. – The Rams opened their Class 4A Big Six conference schedule with a commanding 35-0 win over the Laurel Highlands Mustangs on Friday night, a homecoming celebration for the Mustangs.
Offensive fireworks
Freshman quarterback Jace Trumpe connected with senior wide receiver Demetri Lowe for 117 yards and two touchdowns, including a 71‑yard strike on the opening drive. Hawkins added three catches for 109 yards, also finding the end zone. Lowe contributed two big runs, a 28‑yard dash and a 24‑yard sprint that capped a 99‑yard touchdown drive.
Defensive stands
Ringgold’s defense forced multiple turnovers, including an early interception by Lowe and a fumble recovery by Mark Reed. The Rams also recorded a sack on Trumpe by Joel Hertlein and a forced fumble that led to a short field for the offense.
Key moments
A bold fake punt early in the second quarter saw the Rams’ punter run 16 yards from the end zone for a first down, setting up the 99‑yard drive that put the game out of reach. Later, Trumpe threw a 62‑yard pass to Hawkins, setting up Lowther’s second touchdown.
Stat line
Trumpe finished 7‑of‑13 for 226 yards and two touchdowns. Lowe led the ground game with four carries for 46 yards. Ringgold amassed 179 rushing yards and 405 total yards, while Laurel Highlands were limited to 100 total yards.
Coach’s perspective
Ringgold head coach Ian Edenfield praised his team’s effort, noting the need for continued improvement despite the dominant performance. “We played hard the whole game and there are things we need to improve on for sure,” Edenfield said.
