The Richmond District is heating up with new businesses and events. A new massage spa, A Stone in Light, has opened at 2015 Balboa Street near 22nd Ave. The spa is owned by Richmond District resident Henry Bell, who aims to create a neighborhood space that meets the needs of the community.
New Art Show and Events
Outer Richmond artist Harry Nordlinger will have a solo show at Eye and Hand Society at 3425 Balboa St. near 35th Ave, opening June 20. The show, dubbed ‘Spite House,’ will feature comic-book illustrations and figurative paintings. Additionally, the Balboa Theater is hosting various events for Pride month, including a screening of ‘Tetsuo: The Iron Man’ with live drag.
Rampant Wine is also hosting events, including a singles mixer night and an oyster-shucking workshop. The neighborhood is becoming a hot spot for pop-up entrepreneurs, with Foozool Coffee bringing seasonal coffee and tea drinks to Balboa Street and 19th Avenue on Sunday, June 14.
However, two grocery stores, Apple Land Produce and Mainland Market, have apparently shuttered in recent weeks. Renovation work is underway at Apple Land, but no new business registrations have been filed for the sites.
