Revere Beach is hosting its 22nd annual sand sculpting festival, featuring artists from around the world. The festival, which began on Wednesday, will continue through Saturday afternoon, with the winner being selected by a panel of judges on Saturday.
Artists and Their Creations
Dozens of sand sculptors are competing for a cash prize, with precision, passion, and a keen eye for detail on full display. Joon Park, one of the sculpting artists, has been sculpting for more than a decade and traveled from California to compete. This year, he is creating a monster-themed sculpture with no sketch, just a vision.
Sevelin Beauregard brought her talents from Canada to Revere Beach, creating a sculpture called ‘I told you so,’ which features a cat entangled in yarn. The sculpture can be interpreted in many ways, but according to Beauregard, it is about the advice people give in life.
With rain in the forecast, artists are taking precautions to protect their creations, spraying a water and glue mixture over their sculptures to keep the sand intact in case of inclement weather. Locals are already stopping by to watch the artists at work, admiring the creativity and skill that these artists have.
The winner of the competition will take home a cash prize of $4,500. Sunday will be the final day for visitors to view the sculptures before they are taken down.
Safety and Attendance
Massachusetts State Police are encouraging everyone planning to attend this weekend to be aware of street closures and parking restrictions. They are also asking those who show up to enjoy the event respectfully.
