U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds announced an aerospace proposal called “Florida’s Space Race,” aimed at relocating NASA headquarters to the state, expanding launch capacity, and cutting down regulatory approval times for commercial space projects.

The initiative focuses on securing a larger share of the global space economy, which projections estimate could reach $1.8 trillion over the next decade. Donalds’ plan outlines several state-level measures, including faster permitting for strategic development sites, regional aerospace advisers, and increased state backing for Space Florida.
“Florida launched the first space race, and Florida will win the next one,” Donalds said in a statement. “Every American who walked on the Moon left Earth from Florida’s coast. As governor, I’ll fight to bring NASA headquarters home, create thousands of high-paying jobs, and ensure the next giant leap starts right here in the Sunshine State.”
To support the industry, the proposal includes an expanded zero-tuition workforce initiative called “LaunchPad.” The training programs are designed to build a talent pipeline across technical trades—such as welding, electrical work, machining, and construction—alongside engineering and research roles.
The plan also calls for a statewide Florida Space Race Summit to bring together state agency officials, industry executives, and research institutions to coordinate future growth.
