Renton area schools release back-to-school calendar for 2026‑2027

Parents and students in the Renton area can now plan ahead for the upcoming school year. The Renton School District, along with the Kent and Issaquah districts that serve Renton‑based schools, have posted detailed calendars covering the first month of the 2026‑2027 academic year.

Renton School District schedule

Classes for grades 1‑12 begin on Wednesday, August 26. The district’s school board will also meet that day, providing an opportunity for community members to hear updates directly from district leaders. A delayed‑start day is scheduled for Friday, August 28, giving students a 90‑minute later start to ease the transition back to class.

Kindergarten and Ready K students start on Monday, August 31, while the Meadow Crest Early Learning Center opens its doors on Tuesday, September 1. The district observes Labor Day on Monday, September 7, with no school sessions.

For more information, families can visit rentonschools.us or call the district office at 425‑204‑2300.

Kent School District schools located in Renton

Renton‑based schools that are part of the Kent School District—including Northwood Middle, Meeker Middle, Ridgewood Middle, Fairwood Elementary and Carriage Crest Elementary—follow a similar timeline. First day for grades 1‑12 is Wednesday, August 26, with the board meeting held the same day. Kindergarten begins on Monday, August 31, and Labor Day remains a holiday on September 7. Preschool classes start on Tuesday, September 8.

Additional details are available on the Kent district website at kent.k12.wa.us or by calling 253‑373‑7000.

Issaquah School District schools located in Renton

The Issaquah School District, which operates Liberty High, Maywood Middle, Maple Hills Elementary, Briarwood Elementary and Apollo Elementary in Renton, has a slightly different schedule. The board meeting is set for Thursday, August 27, followed by the first day of classes for grades 1‑12 on the same day. Preschool and kindergarten students begin on Tuesday, September 1.

Parents can find further information on the Issaquah district’s website at isd411.org or by calling 425‑837‑7000.

What this means for families

Having the full calendar in advance helps families coordinate transportation, childcare and work schedules. It also gives parents a chance to attend board meetings, where district policies and budget decisions are discussed—an important aspect of local involvement in education.

Community members are encouraged to reach out to their respective district offices with any questions about the schedule, transportation routes or special programs offered during the first weeks of school.
