Reno launches discounted tree program for residents through ReLEAF

The City of Reno is once again supporting families and neighborhoods by providing a selection of trees at a heavily reduced price through the ReLEAF Reno initiative. Residents can reserve a tree for just $40, a price well below market cost, helping homeowners enhance curb appeal and promote a greener community.

How to reserve and pick up a tree

Interested Renoans can secure a tree by visiting the online reservation link provided by the city. Once a reservation is made, the trees will be available for pickup at the Idlewild Park Maintenance Office, located at 2055 Idlewild Drive on the west side of Idlewild Park.

Early pickup will run from Tuesday, October 13 through Friday, October 16, between 6:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. A larger, public pickup event is scheduled for Saturday, October 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. All distributions operate on a first‑come, first‑served basis, so residents are encouraged to arrive early.

Tree varieties available

The program offers a range of species suited to the local climate, including California Incense Cedar, Pink Dawn, Village Green Zelkova, Bosc Pear, and Prairifire Crabapple. These selections provide options for both shade and ornamental planting, allowing families to choose trees that best fit their property and aesthetic preferences.

Why the program matters

By subsidizing tree costs, Reno is reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship, property‑value improvement, and community beautification—principles that align with the values of traditional families and responsible stewardship of our neighborhoods. Trees also contribute to better air quality, reduced energy costs for homeowners, and a more pleasant streetscape for all residents.

The ReLEAF program reflects the city’s ongoing effort to make sustainable improvements accessible to every household, regardless of income. By keeping the price low and offering a convenient pickup location, the city removes barriers that might otherwise prevent families from planting trees on their own property.

Additional information

Quantities are limited, so residents should act promptly to secure their preferred tree. For further details, including the reservation link and any updates to pickup times, please visit the City of Reno’s official website or contact the Idlewild Park Maintenance Office directly.

This initiative is part of a broader municipal focus on enhancing public spaces, supporting family‑friendly neighborhoods, and fostering a sense of pride among Reno’s citizens.
