Remains of Missing Arroyo Grande Resident Patrick Valente Identified

San Luis Obispo County – The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office announced that human remains uncovered in a remote part of the county earlier this year belong to Patrick Jay Valente, a 58‑year‑old man who disappeared from his Arroyo Grande home in July 2008.

Investigation and Identification

In June, deputies responded to a report of possible human remains in an unspecified rural area of the county. After confirming the remains were human, a forensic anthropologist examined the bones and positively identified them as Valente, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

Valente was last seen on July 4, 2008, near his residence on the 2500 block of Callender Road. He left behind his car, cell phone, keys and other personal belongings. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as having a salt‑and‑pepper beard. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance were deemed suspicious, and detectives have kept the case open.

Call for Information

The sheriff’s department is urging anyone with additional information about Valente’s disappearance or the circumstances of his death to contact the Detective Division at 805‑781‑4500 or Crime Stoppers at 805‑549‑7867. Even small details could prove vital to solving the case and providing closure to Valente’s family.

Community Impact

The identification brings a measure of resolution to a case that has lingered for more than 15 years, affecting not only Valente’s relatives but also the broader Arroyo Grande community. Local residents have expressed both relief that the mystery is moving toward answers and concern that the investigation remains ongoing.

Law‑enforcement officials emphasized their commitment to pursuing all leads and following forensic evidence wherever it may lead. The sheriff’s office also reminded the public that reporting suspicious activity promptly can help prevent future tragedies.

About the Charley Project

The Charley Project, a national database of missing‑person cases, provided background details on Valente’s disappearance. The organization continues to support families of the missing by maintaining up‑to‑date case files and encouraging public awareness.

As the investigation proceeds, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office will provide updates to the community. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through official channels and to cooperate with any ongoing investigative efforts.
