The Role of a Pastor
The concept of a shepherd is also applied to spiritual leaders, known as pastors. The Latin word “Pastor” originally meant a shepherd who tends and feeds a flock. Over time, it evolved to mean a spiritual leader who cares for a congregation, modeled after Jesus as the “Good Shepherd.”
In John 10, Jesus describes himself as the Good Shepherd, who leads, protects, and lays down his life for the flock. This imagery is a beautiful representation of the role of a pastor, who is called to care for and guide their congregation.
As Christians, we are called to pray for our pastors and support them in their role. We should also hold them accountable to the biblical standards of a true shepherd, as described in Psalm 23 and John 10.
