The Cincinnati Reds have traded first baseman and designated hitter Nathaniel Lowe to the Cleveland Guardians. The trade was announced just before Major League Baseball’s trade deadline on Monday. In return, the Reds will receive right-handed pitcher Alejandro Rivera.
Lowe signed with the Reds ahead of the 2026 season and has been among Cincinnati’s best hitters for stretches of time. Through 83 games, Lowe has hit .266/.341/.480 with 12 home runs, 37 RBIs and a 122 OPS+, with nearly all of that production against right-handed pitching.
The majority of Lowe’s plate appearances this season have come as a designated hitter, with 27 games played at first base. Lowe will head to a Cleveland team that entered Monday one game over .500 and fighting for a playoff spot in the American League.
