For 16 years, John Schutte has been the musician behind the Cincinnati Reds’ summer soundtrack. As the team’s organist, he has serenaded millions of people at Great American Ball Park.
A Lifelong Passion for Music
Schutte began playing the piano at the age of five and was taught by a nun at his church. Although he initially didn’t enjoy playing, he eventually developed a passion for music. After graduating from Oak Hills High School and the University of Cincinnati, Schutte and his friends started a cover band.
One fateful day in 2010, the band was invited to play at Great American Ball Park, which led to Schutte’s big break as the Reds’ organist. He has been playing for the team ever since and has no plans to leave his perch anytime soon.
