Reds’ Elly De La Cruz Exits Game Due to Hamstring Injury

Cincinnati Reds’ All-Star shortstop Elly De La Cruz had to leave Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Braves after suffering a right hamstring injury. The incident occurred as De La Cruz was attempting to turn a likely extra-base hit in the fifth inning.

De La Cruz, who has been a consistent presence for the Reds this season, starting all 58 games, may see his streak come to an end due to the injury. The team confirmed that he was removed from the game because of tightness in his right hamstring.

During the play, De La Cruz hit a ball that reached the wall in right center field. As he approached first base, he slowed down and took cautious steps toward second base before deciding to return to first. Following an evaluation by the team’s trainer, De La Cruz was replaced by pinch runner Matt McLain.

The 24-year-old shortstop has been having an impressive season, earning his third consecutive All-Star Game appearance. Before leaving the game, De La Cruz had a 2-for-2 performance, including a walk and a stolen base. His current season statistics include a .280 batting average, a .346 on-base percentage, a .509 slugging percentage, 12 home runs, 37 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases.

De La Cruz’s durability has been a hallmark of his career, having played in all 162 games in the 2025 season and 160 games in 2024. The Reds and their fans will be hoping for a quick recovery to see him back on the field soon.
