A recent diagnosis of obesity may not be what you expect, even if you have a healthy BMI. Dr. Michael Roizen explains that obesity is being redefined to mean an excess of body fat, especially fat around vital organs, not excess pounds.
What Does This Mean for You?
According to a study conducted by the Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology Commission, around 26% of adults in the U.S. with a “normal weight” are actually clinically obese. This diagnosis is indicated if you have a waistline greater than 35 inches as a woman or 40 inches as a man and are contending with the negative impact that excess body fat can cause to organ function and physical agility.
Dr. Roizen advises that instead of heading toward a disability-filled retirement, you can change your future by exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, and getting regular check-ups to monitor your nutritional levels, LDL cholesterol, and blood sugar.
Stem Cell Treatments
Stem cell treatments are cutting-edge therapies that use a patient’s own stem cells to engineer recovery, bypassing the need for potentially trouble-causing immunosuppressive drugs. The most exciting use of stem cells is in treating diseases such as leukemia, heart disease, macular degeneration, and Parkinson’s disease.
