Little Rock kicked off the Fourth of July weekend in style as the Firecracker 5K celebrated a milestone 50th annual running — and set a new participation record in the process, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
The beloved race, a longtime Independence Day tradition in the city, drew more runners than ever before for its golden anniversary, a testament to how deeply the event has taken root in the community over the past five decades.
The record-breaking turnout wasn’t the only reason Central Arkansas had to celebrate this holiday weekend. The 501 Run Club, a newer community running group, has also been making waves across the region by turning local runs into what KATV described as a “big community bash” — bringing neighbors together through fitness and fun.
Meanwhile, Little Rock’s Historic Arkansas Museum marked America’s 250th birthday with a special 1836-style celebration, and the beloved Pops on the River event returned to the Arkansas River waterfront, treating families to live music, activities, and fireworks.
But it was the Firecracker 5K’s record-setting 50th edition that stood out as the weekend’s signature feel-good moment — proof that Little Rock knows how to lace up, show up, and celebrate together. Here’s to 50 more years of running into the holiday with community pride.
