The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired right-handed pitcher Freddy Peralta from the New York Mets in exchange for three minor league players: right-handed pitcher Gary Gill Hill, outfielder Aidan Smith, and infielder Émilien Pitre.
Peralta’s Career
Peralta, 30, arrives in Tampa Bay after making 22 starts for New York this season, posting a 5-9 record with a 4.99 ERA. Over 113.2 innings, he has recorded 113 strikeouts and 48 walks while holding opponents to a .264 batting average.
Peralta has logged four quality starts this year—three coming against American League teams—and has surrendered three runs or fewer in 15 of his 22 outings. Opponents have managed just a 5.2 percent barrel rate against him, which ranks as the fifth-lowest mark among qualified major league pitchers.
Rays’ Roster Move
To clear a spot for Peralta on the 40-man roster, the Rays transferred outfielder Jake Fraley, who is recovering from a hernia, to the 60-day injured list.
