Rangers snap two‑month road slump with 7‑6 win over Diamondbacks

Texas Rangers fans finally got a reason to celebrate on Sunday when the club broke an eight‑game road‑series losing streak with a 7‑6 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The win, highlighted by Corey Seager’s fourth homer in seven games, gave the Rangers their first road series triumph in two months and kept them two games behind Cleveland for the final AL wild‑card spot.

Seager’s big blast sets the tone

Seager opened the game with a two‑run shot in the first inning, his 18th homer of the season, driving in two runs off Diamondbacks right‑hander Eduardo Rodriguez (15‑6). The blast sailed over the pool deck in right‑center and gave Texas an early 2‑0 lead.

Arizona responded with an error‑filled fifth inning that allowed the Rangers to add three more runs, extending the lead to 5‑1. The Diamondbacks fought back, narrowing the gap with a three‑run homer by Nolan Arenado and a solo shot from Gabriel Moreno, but Texas held on.

Late‑inning drama

Reliever Jacob Latz entered the ninth with a 7‑4 advantage, tasked with preserving the win. He allowed doubles to Arenado and Tim Tawa, then gave up an RBI double to Jordan Lawler that cut the lead to 7‑6. Latz retired James McCann on a groundout, struck out Tommy Troy, and after an intentional walk to Ketel Marte, secured the final out when Gabriel Moreno popped up to shortstop Seager.

Latz’s performance remains impressive; he has converted 29 of 32 save opportunities this season, including 24 of his last 25 chances.

Pitching notes

Arizona starter Eduardo Rodriguez escaped a bases‑loaded jam in the fourth inning but ultimately surrendered six runs (three earned) on eight hits with seven strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. Texas starter Cal Quantrill (9‑5) gave up two runs and four hits in just over six innings, providing the team with a solid foundation.

Looking ahead

The Rangers head to Boston for the next series, with left‑hander Patrick Sandoval (1‑5, 4.58 ERA) slated to start on Tuesday. Arizona will turn to right‑hander Corbin Burnes, who is returning from elbow surgery, for his second start.

With the win, Texas remains within striking distance of the postseason and hopes to build momentum on the road, a crucial factor as the regular season winds down.
