ARLINGTON, Texas – Jarred Kelenic, a former top prospect, has been called up by the Texas Rangers, marking his fourth team in four seasons. Kelenic made his first start for the Rangers in left field in a 6-4 loss to San Diego on Saturday.
Kelenic’s Journey
Kelenic, the sixth overall pick in the 2018 amateur draft, debuted for Seattle as a 21-year-old in 2021. However, he struggled, hitting .168 in his first 500 at-bats over two seasons with the Mariners. He was traded to Atlanta before the 2024 season and signed a minor league deal with the Chicago White Sox this year.
Kelenic signed a minor league deal with the Rangers on June 2 and hit .340 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 13 games at Triple-A Round Rock, earning him a call-up to the majors.
Rangers manager Skip Schumaker discussed Kelenic’s latest chance to make an impact in the big leagues, saying, “I think those expectations are tough, especially as a young player, but I still believe in the talent and the player that I can be each and every day.”
