Ranchland Hills Golf Club Earns Its Quiet Reputation

Ranchland Hills Golf Club has been operating in Burleson since the early 1970s — which makes it older than a significant chunk of the city’s current population. That kind of longevity in a suburban golf market doesn’t happen by accident.

The course sits off Ranchland Hills Drive on Burleson’s west side, flanked by mature trees that took decades to grow into what they are now. It’s a semi-private, 18-hole layout that plays to around 6,400 yards from the back tees — not a monster by any measure, but the par-71 design has enough elevation change and tree-lined corridors to punish loose iron play. Locals who’ve been playing it for years tend to describe it as honest: what you see is what you get, with no gimmick holes thrown in to pad the scorecard.

Greens fees run in the $30–$45 range depending on the day and time, with twilight rates dropping noticeably after 3 p.m. Cart fees are typically included or bundled in. Walking is permitted, which puts Ranchland Hills in a shrinking category among courses in this part of Johnson County. Weekend mornings fill up fast — tee times starting around 7 a.m. book out by Thursday or Friday for Saturday play. Weekday afternoons are notably quieter and give a better feel for the course without the pace-of-play drag.

The pro shop is functional rather than flashy — rental clubs, a modest selection of balls and gloves, basic snacks. Staff have generally been around long enough to know the regulars by name, which sets a certain tone. Lessons are available through the club, and a practice area handles the basics: a driving range and a putting green that gets regular use before morning rounds.

What the course doesn’t have is the resort-style amenity list that some newer public tracks in the DFW area have leaned into. There’s no TopTracer range attachment, no full-service restaurant. That’s a tradeoff some golfers actively prefer. The draw here is the round itself — a course that rewards course management over raw power, with a few greens that break harder than they look and one finishing stretch on the back nine that gives up birdies grudgingly.

For newer golfers, Ranchland Hills is approachable without being a pushover. For mid-handicappers who play regularly, it offers enough variety to stay interesting across multiple rounds in a season. And for the players who’ve been coming here since the Carter administration, it’s simply the place they go on Tuesday mornings because that’s what Tuesday mornings are for.

There’s something worth noting about a golf course that survives in a suburban market for fifty-plus years without a major rebrand or ownership overhaul. Ranchland Hills hasn’t needed to reinvent itself because the fundamentals — decent turf conditions, fair pricing, a layout that plays to the land — have stayed intact. That’s harder to maintain than it sounds.
