R.C. ‘Happy’ Hopper, an 81-year-old Christian musician and pastor from Texas, has lived a life filled with faith, music, and love. He was raised in the Pentecostal Holiness denomination and has been playing the guitar since he was 10 years old.
A Life of Music and Ministry
Hopper has written 368 songs, including eight dedicated to his late wife, Cecilia. He has also officiated 386 weddings, including one for a Muslim couple from India. His musical journey has taken him to various churches, saloons, and even a weekly gig at Tequila’s in West Branson.
Hopper’s faith has been a guiding force in his life, but he has also faced challenges and controversies. He was once told to resign from a church for wanting to perform weddings for divorced people. Despite these challenges, Hopper remains committed to his faith and his music.
A Family Man
Hopper has a gay son and a transgender grandson, and he has spoken out about the importance of love and acceptance. He says, ‘I don’t give a damn what people think the Bible says. When you are going to put people down — I’ve decided what’s more important to me is people, and love, my family.’
Hopper’s story is one of faith, love, and music. He continues to inspire and uplift those around him with his message of acceptance and compassion.
