Queen Creek Town Council Considers Removing Annexed Area from General Plan

The Queen Creek Town Council is scheduled to meet this Wednesday to deliberate on the potential removal of an annexed area from the town’s General Plan. This area, known as Combs and Gantzel, encompasses 489 acres and is home to approximately 5,000 residents.

According to an analysis conducted by town departments, maintaining the annexation would be more costly than the tax revenue it generates. This financial imbalance has prompted town staff to recommend that the council remove the area from the town’s planning area boundary.

The proposal has sparked significant opposition from the community. The town has received 141 emails expressing opposition to the removal of the annexed area, compared to just one letter in support of the proposal.

The meeting will take place on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Chambers, where council members will review the staff’s recommendation and consider the community’s feedback.

Community Concerns

Residents have voiced their concerns about the potential impact of removing the area from the General Plan. Many fear that such a move could lead to decreased property values and a reduction in services provided by the town.

Queen Creek’s decision will be closely watched by local residents who are invested in the future development and planning of their community. The outcome of this meeting could set a precedent for how the town handles similar situations in the future.
