Moline, Ill. – The Quad Cities International Airport (QCIA) confirmed that Joseph Goetz will step into the chief operating officer position effective Sunday. The appointment follows Goetz’s four‑year tenure with the airport, during which he helped advance major projects such as the ongoing Project GATEWAY expansion.
Leadership transition
“Joe has been instrumental in strengthening our operations and helping move major initiatives like Project GATEWAY forward,” said Benjamin Leischner, QCIA’s chief executive officer. Leischner added that Goetz’s promotion reflects the airport’s commitment to continuity and operational excellence.
Scope of responsibility
As COO, Goetz will oversee all airport operations, including airfield maintenance, facilities upkeep, information technology services and the airport’s limited liability company. He will also sit on the airport’s executive leadership team, collaborating with senior staff on strategic planning, safety initiatives and community outreach.
Professional background
Before joining QCIA in 2020, Goetz accumulated extensive experience at a variety of regional airports. His résumé includes leadership roles at Crater Lake–Klamath Airport in Oregon, Bellingham International Airport in Washington, Grand Forks International Airport in North Dakota, and Greater Rockford Airport in Illinois. This breadth of experience equips him to manage the complex operational demands of a busy multi‑modal hub that serves both Illinois and Iowa residents.
Impact on the Quad Cities community
The Quad Cities International Airport is a critical economic engine for the region, supporting thousands of jobs and facilitating commerce, tourism and travel for the greater Quad Cities area. Goetz’s appointment is expected to sustain the airport’s momentum in expanding routes, improving passenger amenities and enhancing safety standards—key factors that contribute to local economic growth and quality of life.
Looking ahead
With Goetz at the operational helm, QCIA plans to continue its focus on infrastructure upgrades, technology integration and customer service improvements. Stakeholders anticipate that his leadership will help the airport meet rising demand, attract new airlines and maintain its status as a vital transportation hub for the Midwest.
The airport authority encourages community members to stay informed about upcoming projects and opportunities to provide feedback through public meetings and the airport’s website.
