Qantas Airways has announced that it will exit its stake in Jetstar Japan, selling its 33.32% share to the company for $52.11 million.
The deal, which is expected to be completed by June 2027, will allow Qantas to redirect its capital towards its operations in Australia and across its international networks.
Details of the Deal
As part of the agreement, Jetstar Japan will buy back Qantas’ minority stake, while the Development Bank of Japan will join as a new shareholder. Japan Airlines and Tokyo Century will retain their respective stakes in the company.
After Qantas’ divestment, Jetstar Japan will rebrand to drop the ‘Jetstar’ brand as it seeks to strengthen its position in Japan’s low-cost carrier market.
