Little Rock – Pulaski Academy’s fine‑arts program is garnering statewide recognition as seniors and younger students alike take the stage in regional competitions and collaborative workshops. The achievements underscore the school’s commitment to nurturing artistic talent in a supportive, faith‑centered environment.
Broadway Bound Awards spotlight senior talent
Senior Mallory Lafferty was named one of the top three girls in the Broadway Bound Awards of Central Arkansas. She described the week‑long event as a “big collaborative workshop” where participants created an opening number, a closing number, and a series of character medleys. Lafferty and six other seniors are also guiding a middle‑school musical, helping younger students select the show, cast roles, design sets, arrange music, choreograph dances, and direct the production. “It really is us working with the kids hand in hand,” Lafferty said. “Every rehearsal for four really, really quick weeks, we’re putting on a show.”
Choir and band students earn All‑Region honors
In the school’s choir, bass singer Javeed Walker secured eighth chair at the All‑Region competition, a placement he proudly noted as “good.” Meanwhile, percussionist William Tull auditioned for All‑Region band, jazz, and orchestra ensembles. Tull emphasized the value of performing alongside other musicians: “It really is an honor to be able to make All‑Region, All‑State and things like that. It’s a really great opportunity to learn. And it’s truly a different experience being able to play with such great musicians.”
Fine‑arts director highlights the broader impact
Fine‑arts Director John Willis praised the students’ accomplishments, calling the opportunities “a rare and wonderful opportunity” for a smaller independent school to perform with larger ensembles, including an 80‑member choir. Willis noted that these experiences build confidence, teamwork, and artistic skill that serve students well beyond the classroom.
The school’s emphasis on fine‑arts education aligns with its broader mission to develop well‑rounded individuals grounded in Christian values and strong family support. By providing platforms for students to excel in music, theater, and performance, Pulaski Academy continues to strengthen the cultural fabric of the Little Rock community.
