In a dramatic overnight incident that began around 11:09 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, Pueblo police responded to a reported home invasion in the 1600 block of Gaylord Avenue. Officers were alerted that the suspect fled the scene in a Dodge Ram.
Pursuit and confrontation
Police located the vehicle near the intersection of Jones Avenue and Brimmer Avenue and initiated a pursuit. The driver abandoned the truck on Regency Boulevard and entered an apartment complex. Officers tracked the suspect to an upstairs unit, identified themselves, and knocked on the door.
When the suspect opened the door, gunfire erupted between him and the officers. Both officers sustained injuries that were described as non‑life‑threatening; one was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
