Public Hearing Set for Proposed Eastside Data Center in Indianapolis

Indianapolis residents will have the opportunity to express their thoughts on a proposed $2 billion data center project by Georgia-based developer DC Blox. The public hearing is scheduled for June 11 at 1 p.m. in the public assembly room of the City-County Building, located at 200 E. Washington St.

Project Details

The proposed data center campus is planned for the eastside of Indianapolis, near South Kitley Avenue and the Pennsy Trail. The development would consist of three buildings and could utilize up to 78 megawatts of electricity, supported by 56 backup generators. DC Blox is seeking a use variance, which is a request to use the property for purposes not currently allowed under its zoning classification. This process is standard for data centers in Indianapolis.

Community Involvement

The hearing examiner for the Metropolitan Development Commission (MDC) will review the proposal and consider community feedback. Representatives from DC Blox will present information about the project, and community members are encouraged to share their comments. The hearing examiner will then make a recommendation to approve or deny the petition, which will subsequently be voted on by the full eight-member MDC.

Residents can also submit written comments via email to [email protected] before the hearing. The MDC holds the final decision-making authority on the project.
