Pub Quiz Night at Storehouse Bar & Refuge

What exactly do you do on a Tuesday night in Rockwall when you don’t feel like driving to Dallas but still want something that doesn’t involve a drive-through window or your own couch? That’s the question that led me to The Pour House, a craft beer bar on the south side of the historic downtown square that, depending on the night, is either the quietest place in town or the loudest argument about whether an IPA counts as food.

Walking in, you notice the bar before anything else — a long, well-worn stretch of wood with taps running down the back wall like a lineup you’re actually glad to face. The selection skews toward Texas craft breweries: Lone Pint, Revolver, Peticolas, and a rotating cast of smaller outfits that don’t show up on most bar menus in Rockwall. They also pull in a few regional and national craft picks for people who want something less local. The staff know what’s on draft and can describe a hazy pale ale without sounding like they’re reading off a card, which is worth more than you’d think.

The space itself is unpretentious to the point of being almost aggressively casual. Exposed brick, a few high-top tables, some bar stools that have seen better days, and a general atmosphere that suggests nobody here is trying to impress you. That’s a compliment. On weekday evenings it fills up slowly — by 7 p.m. you’ve got a decent crowd, mostly regulars who greet each other by name, plus a handful of people who wandered over from whatever they were doing on the square.

Food is limited, as it should be at a place that clearly understands its lane. They’ve got bar snacks and occasionally bring in food trucks, so check ahead if eating is part of the plan. Most nights the better move is to arrive having already eaten and ready to focus on the main event, which is working through a flight of whatever’s rotating that week.

Pricing runs what you’d expect for craft beer — somewhere in the $6–$9 range per pour depending on what you’re ordering, with flights available if you want to sample before committing. Nothing about the tab will shock you, and nothing about the experience will feel like you paid for a brand.

The Pour House also hosts trivia nights, which draw a reliably enthusiastic crowd and fill the back half of the room with teams that take things either very seriously or not at all seriously, often seated next to each other. It’s the kind of event that works better in person than it sounds on paper, mostly because the energy of a room full of people arguing about 1990s sitcom guest stars is genuinely difficult to replicate at home.

If you come in expecting a polished beer hall experience, you’ll leave mildly confused. If you come in expecting a neighborhood bar where people actually want to be there and the beer list rewards some curiosity, you’ll probably be back the following Tuesday. Rockwall doesn’t have a surplus of places like this, which makes The Pour House matter more than its square footage would suggest.
