Pride Center San Antonio Relocates Amid Search for Permanent Home

The Pride Center San Antonio is relocating from its long-standing location at the Metropolitan Professional Building to a new temporary site in Government Hill on the inner East Side. This move marks the first relocation in nearly a decade for the center, which has been a cornerstone for the LGBTQ+ community in San Antonio.

Transition Driven by Redevelopment

Cristian Sanchez, chair of the Pride Center, explained that the move is necessitated by the redevelopment of the Metropolitan building. The center, which has been supported by Methodist Health Systems, has grown significantly during its time there, expanding from no staff to a full clinical program serving many individuals.

“We’ve been in the Metropolitan Professional Building for about eight years, provided by Methodist Health Systems, and they’ve been an excellent partner,” Sanchez said. “Because of them, we were able to go from no staff to a full clinical program serving many people.”

While the new Government Hill space is not yet open, it will soon serve as the center’s temporary base for offering free resources to the LGBTQ+ community. Sanchez emphasized that the demand for these services remains high, with over 1,500 hours of free mental health counseling provided this year alone, serving more than 200 people in the first five months of 2026.

Services and Community Support

In addition to counseling, the Pride Center offers case management, including referrals and assistance in accessing welfare programs, as well as grief groups and youth groups. The center also serves as a training ground for graduate social work students, providing a unique opportunity to learn how to offer services tailored to the LGBTQ+ community.

During this transition, the San Antonio AIDS Foundation has offered temporary space to help the Pride Center continue its operations. However, Sanchez stressed the need for a permanent location to maintain and expand their community programming, including drop-in centers and group therapy sessions.

To support this effort, the Pride Center has launched the San Antonio Deserves a Pride Center emergency fundraiser campaign, aiming to raise $100,000 to stabilize services during the transition. Sanchez is hopeful that the San Antonio community will rally to help the center find and fund a new permanent home.

The move to the new temporary location is expected to be completed by the end of June, with the Government Hill address to be shared on social media once the center is set up.
