Prairie County Pursuit Ends in Crash, Meth Seizure

A Prairie County pursuit ended when a Ford F-150 crashed into a shed behind a home in Biscoe, where authorities later reported finding about 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine.

Incident Details

The incident happened at about 12:51 p.m. Friday, June 19, on U.S. Highway 70 near the Biscoe Post Office, according to an Arkansas State Police report. A trooper reported seeing a white Ford F-150 traveling eastbound with its emergency flashers activated.

The vehicle then accelerated in a residential area where the posted speed limit was 25 mph, according to the report. The truck drove into the backyard of a home at 112 Broad St., struck a shed and caused the building to collapse, immobilizing the vehicle.

The driver, identified in the report as Dewayne Jones, 58, told the trooper he could not get out of the vehicle and was ordered to stay inside with his hands up. The report said Jones was seen multiple times reaching into storage areas and moving around inside the truck.

Hazen Police Department officers Bradley Taylor and Teddy Walker arrived at the scene and helped take Jones into custody without incident, according to the report. Officer Taylor later found a meth pipe with residue on the ground beside the driver’s door, the report said.

Inside the truck, the trooper reported finding a water bottle that had been made into a smoking device and appeared to have been recently used. Authorities also found a gray zippered case about 5 feet from the front passenger side of the crash location, according to the report.

Inside the case, authorities reported finding three bags of suspected methamphetamine weighing about 8.3 grams, 14.5 grams and 7 grams, along with a digital scale with white residue and a lighter with residue. The report said the items were consistent with the packaging and sale of narcotics.

Jones was taken to the Prairie County Detention Center. Authorities said the suspected methamphetamine will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for testing.

The report lists allegations including felony fleeing in a vehicle, first-degree criminal mischief, three counts of felony possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine or cocaine with purpose to deliver, tampering with physical evidence, driving left of center, violation of a driver’s license restriction, speeding more than 15 mph over the limit and reckless driving.

Authorities reported seizing approximately 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine, two smoking devices and a digital scale with residue. Damage to the shed was estimated at $500, while damage to the 2008 Ford F-150 was estimated at $2,000.
