Prada unveils expanded Milan flagship with luxury experience spaces

Italian luxury house Prada announced a major renovation of its flagship presence in Milan’s historic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. The project, described by CEO Andrea Guerra, ties together the brand’s men’s and women’s boutiques with an underground tunnel and a suite of new experiential spaces.

New layout and exclusive amenities

The two existing stores have been refreshed and physically connected, creating a seamless eight‑level complex that includes a permanent exhibition room, a private‑by‑appointment shopping area, and a dedicated apartment for intimate dinners and special events. The tunnel also showcases a selection of silver‑plated Prada handbags reimagined by British artist Damien Hirst, as well as the iconic “Chandelier” dress worn by Carey Mulligan in Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of The Great Gatsby.

Strategic focus on high‑net‑worth clients

Guerra emphasized that the expansion is designed to highlight Prada’s DNA and heritage while offering a more personal experience for its wealthiest clientele. He noted that the brand plans to replicate similar “apartments” in the world’s top 25 capitals, reinforcing a global strategy that blends luxury retail with curated hospitality.

Revenue expectations and market context

Prada projects the new Milan complex could generate roughly €100 million ($115 million) in annual revenue. The company, which posted €5.7 billion in sales last year, did not disclose the total cost of the renovation. The move aligns with a broader industry trend: luxury groups are increasingly tailoring their offerings toward affluent shoppers who continue to spend even as the sector faces a general slowdown.

Balancing elite and aspirational shoppers

While the revamped flagship targets high‑net‑worth customers, Guerra assured that Prada will maintain entry‑level product lines at stable price points to keep the brand accessible to aspirational buyers. The added experiential elements—such as the Prada Caffè and private event spaces—are intended to deepen customer loyalty across the full spectrum of shoppers.

Local impact

The renovation adds a fresh draw for visitors to Milan’s iconic shopping arcade, reinforcing the city’s reputation as a global fashion capital. The project also creates short‑term construction jobs and long‑term positions in retail, hospitality and event management, contributing to the local economy.

Prada’s refreshed flagship demonstrates how luxury brands can blend heritage, personalized service and modern experience design to sustain growth in a competitive market.
