An hours-long power outage impacted the Hollywood Hills and Brentwood neighborhoods as a heat wave reached peak temperatures on Saturday.
Some residents reported their power went out around 6 p.m. Friday and lasted for more than 17 hours, leaving families to deal with the dangerous heat without air conditioning.
By 11:30 a.m. Saturday, data from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power showed the power was still out for 40 homes.
The department said the outages in those areas were linked to an underground circuit that had to be repaired and that crews were working around the clock to fix it.
According to the LADWP’s “Power Outage Map,” the power was fixed in those communities by 3:30 p.m. But people whose power was knocked out overnight expressed frustration.
Heat advisories and extreme heat warnings will remain in place across Southern California through Sunday.
