Power crews begin restoring electricity across Alabama after Hurricane Isaias

Early Saturday morning, thousands of Alabamians found their lights out after Hurricane Isaias swept through the state, bringing down trees, power lines and causing damage to homes and businesses. The storm’s aftermath has left more than 324,000 customers without electricity, according to Alabama Power.

Roads blocked, crews on the move

In Montgomery County, the Emergency Management Agency reported that U.S. Highway 80E is blocked by a downed tree and power line, while Old Selma Road between Wells Road and Davis Road remains obstructed by fallen trees and lines. County officials are waiting for utility crews to clear the debris. Minor roads in the northern part of the county are also affected, but crews are already working on all sites, and the southern half of the county reports cleared and open roads.

Mayor Jason Reeves of Troy announced that crews began mobilizing early Saturday to assess damage and start repairs. In Prattville, city officials said trees and power lines are down along Selma Highway near Washington Ferry and at Cobblestone Curve, prompting residents to avoid travel in those areas.

County alerts and safety advice

The Covington County Emergency Management Agency issued an advisory on Friday night stating that all county‑maintained roads and bridges are considered impassable and that residents should refrain from traveling until conditions improve. Local leaders and police are urging residents to stay home where possible so crews can work safely and efficiently.

Outage numbers by county

Alabama Power’s outage tracker shows the following numbers for the hardest‑hit counties:

Looking ahead

Utility crews are expected to continue clearing debris and restoring power throughout the day. Officials remind residents to stay alert for additional weather updates and to follow safety guidelines when navigating blocked roads. The coordinated response across city and county agencies reflects a commitment to restoring normalcy quickly and safely for Alabama families.
