Post‑nor’easter rain eases but flood watch remains for Greater Boston

Boston and surrounding communities are still feeling the after‑effects of the recent nor’easter. While the storm’s most intense phase has moved on, residents should remain vigilant for periods of light to moderate rain, gusty breezes and the possibility of coastal flooding through tonight.

Current conditions

Throughout Monday, rain will continue to drift across central and eastern Massachusetts, especially in the southeastern part of the state and Rhode Island, where some locations have already recorded more than six inches of rain in the past 72 hours. The rain band is expected to shift northward later this evening toward New Hampshire and Maine.

A Flood Watch is in effect for parts of southern New England, including the Greater Boston area, until late tonight. Residents in low‑lying neighborhoods, near rivers, creeks and streams should heed the “Turn around, don’t drown” warning and avoid driving through flooded roadways.

Wind and coastal impacts

Winds today will be less severe than the weekend’s gusts, but still capable of reaching up to 25 mph. A Coastal Flood Advisory remains active until late tonight, and minor coastal flooding may occur around high tide. Boston Harbor’s high tide occurred at 12:51 p.m.; the next high tide is expected around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday.

Looking ahead

As the storm system moves northeastward and weakens over the Canadian Maritimes, skies will gradually clear. Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with a chance of a few sprinkles, and high temperatures will sit in the mid‑60s.

Wednesday and Thursday bring more sunshine and a noticeable warm‑up. Forecasts call for highs in the low‑70s on Wednesday, climbing into the mid‑70s on Thursday. By the end of the week, a few neighborhoods could see temperatures close to 80°F, offering a pleasant reprieve after several days of rain and wind.

Weekend outlook

The second half of the weekend is expected to bring additional rain, extending into Monday. Residents should continue to monitor local forecasts and heed any updated advisories, especially if they live near flood‑prone areas or along the coast.

Overall, while the immediate threat from the nor’easter has lessened, the lingering Flood Watch and scattered showers mean that caution remains prudent. Keep an eye on the National Weather Service updates and follow local guidance to stay safe.
