Washington County was denied a chance to break a 71-year drought of winning a title as the Pony League World Series championship game was canceled due to unplayable field conditions at Lew Hays Pony Field.
Disappointment for the Team
The Washington County manager, John (JP) Przybylinski, gathered his players behind the dugout at McDowell Lane Field to give them the news he hoped he didn’t have to share. The team was scheduled to play Chinese Taipei in the championship game before it was canceled.
The 15 players on the Washington County squad are: Dylan Carpenter, Grady Kuzior, Cameron Jobkar, Carter Rukavina, Max Taczak, Blake Westfall, Brock Morgan, Evan Campbell, Carter Enrietti, Blake Komenda, Caedon Markley, Collin Beattie, Cameron Shaw, Colman McGuinness and Logan Caughman.
Despite the cancellation, the team participated in an exhibition game with West Covina, Calif., at McDowell Lane Field, which has a turf infield and a grass outfield. Other teams, including Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, and Navajoa, Mexico, also participated in the exhibition games.
