A recent poll conducted by Noble Predictive Insights found that 86% of registered U.S. voters support America’s founding principles, including individual rights such as life, liberty, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to bear arms, equal treatment under the law, and government by the consent of the people.
Disconnect Between Principles and Practice
However, only 31% of all voters believed that these principles are being practiced well, indicating a significant disconnect between the country’s ideals and its current state. The poll’s founder and CEO, Mike Noble, noted that voters are not rejecting the founding ideals, but many doubt the country’s political system is healthy enough to live up to them.
The poll found significant support for American principles among all political groups, with 89% of Republicans, 85% of Democrats, and 79% of Independents on board. Support for American ideals also increased with age, education, and income, with nearly 95% of voters ages 65 and older supporting American ideals.
The poll’s results suggest that the country’s political polarization is a major factor in the disconnect between principles and practice. Noble believes that the parties are too focused on partisan issues and have forgotten about the country’s founding principles.
