A Fort Meade resident experienced a bizarre incident when a woman allegedly stole his car, only to drive it back to his house while deputies were on their way.
Incident Details
The incident began around 2:30 a.m. on July 2nd, when Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call about a vehicle theft at a local home. The victim told authorities that 25-year-old Noemi Cabrera, whom he identified as his brother’s friend, was inside the residence when she suddenly grabbed his car keys and drove off in his gray 2010 Chevy Malibu without permission.
However, the car theft took an unexpected turn. While deputies were still en route to the scene, Cabrera drove the Malibu back to the victim’s house, parked it, and took off running. A responding K9 deputy spotted Cabrera walking a short distance away and took her into custody after she ignored initial orders to stop.
Following her arrest, deputies discovered that Cabrera already had an active Polk County warrant hanging over her head, including charges of defrauding a financial institution, burglary of a conveyance, petit theft, fraudulent use of a credit card, and criminal use of personal identification. Cabrera is now facing new charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle and resisting an officer without violence.
