Polk County K9 Java Assists in Arrest of Fugitive in Eagle Lake

In a recent operation, Polk County Sheriff’s Office successfully apprehended Tony Griffis Hunt, a 40-year-old man from Eagle Lake, Florida, with the assistance of their K9 unit. Deputies arrived at a residence on Fruitland Park Circle to serve an active arrest warrant for Hunt, who had previously failed to appear in court on charges of resisting an officer without violence and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Swift Action by Law Enforcement

Upon arrival, deputies suspected that Hunt was hiding in a backyard shed. Despite issuing multiple verbal commands for him to surrender, Hunt remained unresponsive. The deputies then deployed K9 Java into the shed, prompting Hunt to flee and surrender without further incident.

Following his arrest, deputies discovered that Hunt was in possession of a glass pipe containing methamphetamine. Consequently, Hunt now faces new charges, including felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, in addition to his existing warrant.

Community Safety and Law Enforcement

This incident underscores the importance of law enforcement efforts in maintaining community safety. The successful deployment of K9 Java highlights the valuable role that K9 units play in apprehending fugitives and ensuring public safety. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office continues to demonstrate its commitment to upholding the law and protecting its residents.
