Officers from the marine services unit of the Tacoma Police Department discovered more than 30 cats and kittens living in unsafe conditions on an abandoned boat off the coast of the city’s Owen Beach.
Rescue Efforts
The felines were successfully saved with the help of the area’s animal control and the department’s forensics unit. The cats were in poor condition, with many of them frightened and malnourished, requiring patience, care, and teamwork from the rescue team.
The cats were eventually brought to the Tacoma-Pierce County Humane Society. The situation is currently under investigation, and details surrounding the whereabouts of the boat’s owner remain unclear.
