Plano residents are being called upon to help shape the future of the Legacy area, a significant business, retail, and residential district in northwest Plano. The city has launched a survey, open until June 12, to gather feedback from residents, visitors, and stakeholders. Community Involvement in Planning
Christina Day, Plano’s Director of Planning, emphasized the importance of community input, stating that the feedback will guide the creation of the Legacy Area Master Plan. This plan will focus on land use and redevelopment priorities, aiming to direct future growth, change, and investment within the district.
The survey seeks residents’ opinions on whether the Legacy area requires more residences, office spaces, retail outlets, entertainment options, parks, or other facilities. Additionally, it asks participants to highlight parts of the area they wish to preserve.
Legacy Area’s Significance
The Legacy area spans five square miles and is home to approximately 10,000 residents, with over 96,000 people employed there. Despite its longstanding success over the past four decades, the city recognizes the need for a more focused plan due to evolving market conditions and legislative changes.
Day mentioned that a project update will be presented to the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council later in the summer, ensuring that the community remains informed and involved in the planning process.
