The City of Plano is moving forward on a series of transportation improvements that will benefit commuters, residents and businesses across the community. According to the city’s Community Investment Program, six projects are either underway or slated to begin later this year.
Park Boulevard arterial concrete repair
The city is removing and reconstructing a concrete arterial street and sidewalk along Park Boulevard, stretching from US 75 to the east city limits. Public Works CIP Manager Drew Zaeske said bids opened in mid‑October and construction is expected to start in late November or early December.
Preston Road and McDermott Road lighting
New street lights are being installed along Preston Road from Hedgcoxe Road to SH 121 and along McDermott Road from Preston to the Sam’s Club. Senior Traffic Engineer Chad Ostrander noted the city is finalizing the electrical service process and awaiting ONCOR to install poles on McDermott.
Screening wall replacements
The city is reconstructing, removing and replacing 4,250 linear feet of screening wall and sidewalks in the Oak Brook Estates and The Hills at Preston neighborhoods. CIP Engineering Manager Clay Lipscomb reported that walls along Marsh Lane and the southwest corner of Midway Road and Parker Road have been completed, and the contractor should finish the final sidewalk and landscaping restoration in November.
Chisholm Trail undercrossing at Spring Creek Parkway
To address recurring flooding, the city is renovating the Chisholm Trail underpass at Spring Creek Parkway by raising the trail’s elevation. Park Planning Manager Katie Dunham said the contractor is working on final items and the first phase is anticipated to be completed before the end of the year.
15th Street median renovations
Tree and irrigation replacement is underway along 15th Street, covering the stretch from Custer Road to Mill Valley Drive and from Independence Parkway to Coit. Dunham added that the contractor is currently installing new trees along the medians.
Custer Road water main replacement
The North Texas Municipal Water District (NTMWD) is replacing an aging 30‑inch pipeline along Custer Road in southern Plano and extending into Richardson. Director of Engineering Mark Simon reported that 99% of the pipeline has been installed, with project completion expected at the end of November. Repavement of the roadway is slated for January 2027.
