The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office has released a report on the death of K9 Chilli, who was left in a hot car unintentionally. According to the report, Chilli and her handler had returned to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office after explosives detection training in Rocky Mount. The handler forgot Chilli was in the car and discovered her when he returned to his vehicle at the end of his shift.
Investigation Findings
The internal affairs investigation concluded on July 21 and found no evidence that Chilli was left in the vehicle intentionally. The investigation also determined that criminal charges are not supported.
