A nut butter product sold at Walmart stores in 19 states has been recalled due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall was issued by Boticelli Foods for one lot of bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter, which was manufactured in Italy and distributed by Walmart.

The product was sold in Walmart stores in the following states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, and Wyoming. The recalled product comes in a 6.7-ounce glass jar with UPC 194346207961 and is identified by Lot Code LB028ACP04.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the recall was initiated after Walmart learned that the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services had tested three jars of the product as part of a routine inspection and identified the presence of Salmonella. While no illnesses have been reported to date, consumers are advised not to consume the recalled product and to return it for a full refund.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of infection from Salmonella include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Severe cases can cause the organism to get into the bloodstream and produce more severe illnesses.
