The Pirates closed out their series in Philadelphia with a 6-1 win on Thursday afternoon. Pittsburgh pounded out fourteen hits and held Philadelphia to just four. Jared Jones was sharp in four innings of work before Carmen Mlodzinski, Gregory Soto, and Mason Montgomery locked it down the rest of the way.
Nick Gonzales was the offensive standout — three for five with a home run and two RBI. Esmerlyn Valdez also had a big afternoon — two hits, three RBI, and a triple. Jake Mangum added three hits and scored twice. Pittsburgh hit a team average of three-sixty-eight on the day with five extra-base hits.
