Fort Worth officials confirmed that a single‑engine plane crashed and caught fire on Bonds Ranch Road near Hicks Airfield early Wednesday morning, killing the pilot on site. The incident was reported at approximately 9:55 a.m. and quickly drew a response from the Fort Worth Fire Department, local police, and utility crews.
Emergency response and immediate impact
Firefighters arrived to find the aircraft fully engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, crews discovered one man inside the cockpit. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash also ignited a nearby grass fire, which was contained by the same fire crews.
In addition to the fire, the impact damaged overhead power lines, causing temporary outages for several nearby homes. Utility crews are currently working to repair the lines and restore electricity to the affected residential area.
Road closures and public safety measures
Bonds Ranch Road was closed between Willow Springs Road and Business 287 while emergency personnel and investigators secured the site. Fort Worth police have not indicated how long the closure will remain in effect and have urged drivers to seek alternate routes.
“It did not hit any homes,” a fire department spokesperson said during the press conference. “There were no other injuries. It was an isolated incident here, and nobody else was involved.” The aircraft came down close to a residential community but did not strike any structures.
Investigation underway
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was on scene shortly after the crash, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is expected to arrive to conduct a formal investigation. Authorities have not yet determined whether the plane was taking off, landing, or simply passing near Hicks Airfield, nor have they identified the flight path prior to the crash.
Officials noted that the aircraft had already crashed by the time the first 911 call was received, limiting the ability of first responders to intervene before the fire started.
What residents should know
Residents in the immediate vicinity should remain aware of possible power outages and traffic disruptions while repairs continue. Utility crews are prioritizing restoration of electricity, and police will provide updates on road reopening as the investigation progresses.
This story is developing. Updates will be provided as additional information becomes available from the FAA, NTSB, and local authorities.
