Phoebe Bridgers fans can listen to her new album under the stars at the Adler Planetarium as Spotify and Bridgers present listening parties of her third studio album “Lost Weekend” at planetariums internationally.
Local Angle
The Lost Weekend Planetarium Experience is coming to the Adler Planetarium Aug. 11-14. The first three days are already sold out, but Chicagoans can grab tickets to the audio-visual listening party on Aug. 14 — the same day the album drops — with tickets remaining for three time slots: 3:15, 5 and 6:30 p.m. at $40 per ticket.
“Come listen to the album field trip style,” Bridgers wrote on Instagram, announcing the listening parties at dozens of planetariums worldwide, from Chicago to New Zealand.
Planetarium Experience
The planetarium experience will include nightscape visuals by Babak Tafreshi — a National Geographic night sky explorer and photographer — to be paired with tunes like “Other Plans” and “Lost Boys” from the new album.
Tafreshi has spent the last two decades collecting nocturnal scenes from over 20 countries, so Bridgers’ audiovisual journey will include scenes from the Northern Lights in Iceland to the stars over Madagascar, according to the Adler Planetarium website.
The visual experience will include no computer-generated imagery. Like her recent run of shows, the listening parties are also firmly phone-free, leaving Bridgers fans to experience the new album to the fullest extent. Phones will be placed in Yondr pouches during the event.
Bridgers’ new album, dropping midnight Aug. 14, is her first solo studio album in six years, and will include sixteen songs, which the singer announced via Instagram after the tracklist was leaked online.
The scheduled planetarium meetups are strictly listening party experiences, meaning there will be no appearance from Bridgers herself at the event.
Tickets are going fast, but still remain for two time slots for the Aug. 14 Chicago-based planetarium listening party of “Lost Weekend” at the Adler, 1300 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
