Fort Wayne, Ind. — The beloved Penny Pitch tradition returns this fall, with local gas‑station chain Phil’s One Stop teaming up again with WOWO for a charitable gas‑price rollback.
The three‑hour event is set for Friday, October 23, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. During that window, Phil’s One Stop will lower the price of gasoline at participating stations. WOWO will ask customers to donate the amount they save to the Northeast Indiana Base Community Council (NIBCC), the designated recipient for this year’s campaign.
Event details and locations
WOWO’s Kayla Blakeslee announced the event on the station’s Morning News, welcoming back Phil’s One Stop’s Zac Carper. Carper said the partnership is “exciting” and expects the collaboration to raise a substantial sum for charity.
The flagship site will be Phil’s One Stop #7 on Fern Hill Road near the Coliseum, where WOWO personality Casey Hendrickson will broadcast live. WOWO will be present at four stations on October 23, with additional locations to be revealed as the date approaches.
Goal: $100,000 for military families
The campaign aims to collect $100,000 for the NIBCC, an organization that assists active‑duty service members and their families throughout Northeast Indiana. Blakeslee highlighted a recent case in which a deployed soldier’s wife, caring for four children, received emergency assistance after their basement flooded.
When eligibility criteria are met, NIBCC can provide checks of up to $1,000 to help families with vehicle repairs, medical expenses, or other urgent needs.
Phil’s One Stop’s commitment
Carper noted that Phil’s One Stop already supports veterans in the area and sees the focus on active‑duty families as a natural extension of its charitable work. “We do a lot with veterans in our area already,” he said. “I think going after active‑duty military service members … is a great way to focus.”
The exact amount of the price rollback will be announced shortly before the event, based on market conditions. Carper explained that the savings will come directly from Phil’s One Stop’s own funds, emphasizing that the initiative is “for charity – for a good cause.”
Additional ways to save
Customers may also benefit from Marathon Rewards, which can provide extra savings that vary by location.
All participants are encouraged to place the money they save into the Penny Pitch buckets, helping the NIBCC continue its vital support for military families.
