Philadelphia’s ‘Salute to Independence’ parade, which was scheduled to take place on Friday, has been cancelled due to the scorching temperatures expected in the city. Welcome America Inc. announced the cancellation in a post on X, which was reposted by the city of Philadelphia.

The National Weather Service Philadelphia/Mount Holly forecasted a high of 104° on Friday, which would be the hottest temperature recorded at Philadelphia Int’l Airport since July 3, 1966. City Health Commissioner Dr. Palak Raval-Nelson extended the ‘Heat Health Emergency’ through 8 p.m. Sunday.

Parade Details

The parade was expected to include floats and marching bands, according to an event description. Welcome America Inc. President and CEO Michael DelBene stated that the organization’s first duty is people’s safety, and they cannot host an event of this size and scale under these dangerous heat conditions.
