Greenacres, Fla. – On Tuesday afternoon, Mark Bullock, proprietor of Mark’s Ark Pet Store, witnessed a theft that could endanger a young bird’s life. At approximately 12:20 p.m., a man entered the store, lifted a cage containing a 13‑week‑old sun conure valued at about $700, and walked out with the bird.
Surveillance footage captured the suspect exiting the aisle with the cage, only to return a minute later. During that brief interval, the man also seized a reptile tank that housed a snake, adding the reptile to the stolen items. Bullock estimates the combined value of the bird and snake at roughly $800.
Concern for the bird’s survival
Sun conures are known for their vibrant plumage and lively personalities, but they require specialized care, especially at such a young age. “They can’t survive like they are right now without being hand‑fed by someone who knows how to hand‑feed them,” Bullock explained. “So, this bird most likely will starve to death if it isn’t given proper care.”
The pet store owner expressed frustration not only over the loss of property but also over the potential harm to the animal. “Just angry that someone would just come in and blatantly steal what I work hard for,” Bullock said.
