Pet Influencers Face Grief

Pet influencers have become a staple on social media, bringing joy and entertainment to millions of people. However, when these beloved pets pass away, their owners and followers are left to grieve. For pet influencers like Simon, a 7-year-old Jindo-skewing mix, their deaths can be particularly difficult. Simon’s owner, Isabel Klee, had built a community around her pet, and his passing was met with an outpouring of tributes and condolences from his followers.

Grieving in the Public Eye

For pet influencers, grief is not a private experience, but one that is shared with their followers. Jonathan Graziano, whose geriatric pug Noodle was a social media star, knows this all too well. After Noodle’s passing, Graziano was able to separate his personal grief from the public outpouring of condolences. However, he acknowledges that it can be a difficult experience, especially when faced with accusations of exploiting one’s pet for financial gain.

Thomas Shapiro, whose dog Tika was a fashion influencer, also understands the challenges of grieving in the public eye. After Tika’s passing, Shapiro waited three days to inform his followers, and he now believes that he should have taken more time to grieve before sharing the news publicly.

A Community of Support

Despite the challenges, pet influencers have created a community of support and connection for their followers. Varisiri Methachittiphan, who manages the Instagram account of Nala, a cat with over four million followers, is grateful for the community that has formed around her pet. She knows that when Nala eventually passes away, it will be a difficult experience, but she is comforted by the knowledge that she will have the support of Nala’s followers.
