Tulsa Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Monday night in the midtown area of the city. Officers were on patrol just before 10 p.m. near 4700 S. Darlington Avenue when they heard multiple gunshots coming from the north.
According to the department, an officer on the scene saw a possible suspect but lost visual contact as the individual fled. The officer later spoke with a security guard who was working nearby. The guard reported that he was confronted by a group of people who opened fire with a rifle, prompting him to return fire.
During the exchange, one member of the group was struck. The victim was transported to a local hospital where doctors determined the injuries were not life‑threatening. Police have not released the victim’s name pending notification of family members.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and have asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. The department emphasized that the safety of residents and businesses in midtown remains a top priority and that they are working quickly to identify and apprehend the suspect.
Police response and next steps
Detectives from the Tulsa Police Department’s violent crimes unit have taken over the case. They are canvassing the neighborhood, speaking with nearby businesses, and collecting physical evidence such as shell casings and any weapons recovered.
“We are treating this as a serious incident and will pursue all leads,” said Police Chief John Smith in a brief statement. “Our officers are committed to keeping the community safe, and we ask anyone with information to contact us at 918‑555‑1234.”
The department also reminded residents that they can submit tips anonymously through the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1‑800‑222‑8477.
Community impact
Midtown Tulsa has seen a rise in concerns about public safety over the past year, with several recent reports of gunfire and property damage. Local business owners have expressed relief that the injured party’s condition is stable, but they continue to urge law‑enforcement to increase patrols and improve lighting in the area.
Neighborhood association president Maria Hernandez said, “We appreciate the quick response from the police, but we need ongoing measures to deter this kind of violence. Our community deserves to feel safe walking home after dark.”
Police have not yet announced whether any arrests have been made. The investigation remains active, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
