PeaceHealth announced Tuesday, Oct. 6, that Heather Wall will serve permanently as chief executive of its Oregon region. Wall, a career nurse who has spent more than 20 years with the Catholic health system, had been serving in an interim capacity since April.
Background and transition
Wall stepped into the interim role after former chief executive Jim McGovern was placed on administrative leave in April following allegations that he performed patient‑care duties beyond the scope of his administrative license. PeaceHealth ended McGovern’s employment in May.
The leadership change occurred amid controversy surrounding an effort to contract an out‑of‑state firm to manage emergency departments at the system’s Lane County hospitals.
PeaceHealth’s Oregon footprint
The Oregon region includes three acute‑care hospitals: PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield, PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center in Florence, and PeaceHealth Cottage Grove Community Medical Center. The region also encompasses a network of outpatient clinics and specialty services throughout Lane County.
Wall’s experience
Wall began her PeaceHealth career in 2004 as a neurology nurse at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center, University District. She later became chief nursing officer at Sacred Heart in 2018 and was promoted to vice president of patient‑care operations. Her résumé includes roles as clinical director for the Gamma Knife Center, nurse manager of orthopedics and neurology, director of nursing for medical/surgical services, and senior director of nursing.
She earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Lane Community College and a master’s degree in nursing, leadership and management from Walden University.
Leadership perspective
“Heather’s strong focus on patient care, relationship‑building ability, combination of compassion and accountability and unique dedication to Lane County and PeaceHealth made her the right person for the role,” said Mark Korth, PeaceHealth chief transformation and operating officer.
Wall expressed gratitude for the appointment, stating, “I am honored to serve our patients, caregivers and community in this new capacity, and I look forward to working together to address the current and future healthcare needs of Lane County and beyond. In the last 22 years, I have seen first‑hand the collective excellence, passion and commitment of our talented teams. I am excited to continue to build our future together in the Oregon region.”
