Parramore Market, a soon-to-be micro-grocery store in the heart of Parramore, still plans to open in August despite Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ veto of $170,000 in state funding. The store aims to serve a community that has long been considered a food desert.
Community Support
The Desire Foundation, led by Jennifer Hilaire, has been working to bring Parramore Market to fruition since last year. The market will provide a dignified grocery shopping experience for residents, with shopping carts, cereal dispensers, and a sleek look. Parramore residents will be able to shop for free, while non-residents will be able to purchase food at cost.
Hilaire expressed her determination to move forward with the project, saying, ‘We’re here to stay, we want to help them, we want to help the problem.’ The community is owed fresh food and a dignified grocery store, she added.
The Desire Foundation has raised $15,000 of a $50,000 goal for the grand opening. Hilaire is trusting that God will provide the necessary resources to make the market a success.
